EYE ON JEFFERSON: City Council, department leaders to have retreat

County looks to extend shooting moratorium

The Port Townsend City Council and department leaders will have a team retreat beginning at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

The meeting, expected to last until 5 p.m., will be at the Fort Worden Commons, 200 Battery Way, Port Townsend.

The team will conduct four exercises that focus on a review of last year, an analysis of where the city is today, a look into the future and priorities for 2020.

County commission

The three Jefferson County commissioners will discuss hearing notices for public meetings regarding commercial shooting facilities when they meet at 9 a.m. Monday.

The meeting will be in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

They will consider setting hearings on Feb. 10 at Fort Worden Commons at 200 Battery Way, Port Townsend, on:

• Extending a moratorium on shooting facilities in unincorporated areas of the county for another six months or until the county is in compliance with the state Growth Management Hearings Board’s Final Decision and Order, whichever is sooner.

• Amending Ordinance 12-1102-18 for commercial shooting facilities under Title 8 and repealing and replacing Ordinance 15-1214-18 and amending Title 18.

The first would be at 1:30 p.m. and the second at 2 p.m.

Port Townsend schools

The Port Townsend School Board will conduct a retreat when it meets at 2 p.m. Thursday.

The meeting will be in the Gael Stuart Building, Room S-11, 1610 Blaine St.

The board will hear reports from Port Townsend High School principal Carrie Ehrhardt, district Athletic Director Lysa Falge and many others, including Sarah Rubenstein for Maritime Discovery Schools, Justin Gray for maintenance and facilities, Lisa Condran of Salish Coast Elementary, Richard Durr II for technology, Theresa Campbell of Blue Heron Middle School, Sandy Gessner on special education and curriculum/instruction, and Superintendent John Polm regarding food service.

Jefferson Transit

Jefferson Transit will conduct an open house on Wednesday to gather public input on its long-range plan.

The meeting is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Cotton Building, 607 Water St., Port Townsend.

Presentations will be provided at noon and 5 p.m.

The transit agency is looking for public feedback as it plans its next 20 years of service.

Development authority

The Fort Worden Public Development Authority board will hear a partner presentation from the Port Townsend School of Woodworking when it meets at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

The meeting will be at Commons B (Building 210) at Fort Worden, 200 Battery Way.

The board also will receive recommendations and vote on board treasurer and secretary, and it will hear a project update on glamping.

The board will consider a resolution to authorize its executive director and capital projects director to sign contracts for glamping plumbing and electrical work.

Fire District 3

Clallam County Fire District 3 commissioners will conduct a board workshop when they meet at 1 p.m. Thursday.

The meeting will be at station headquarters, 323 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.

The purpose will be to discuss the district’s vehicle maintenance and replacement program.

The district covers the east side of Clallam County with a small portion in Jefferson County.
