EYE ON JEFFERSON: County panel to consider lodging tax grants

The three Jefferson County commissioners will consider lodging tax allocations when they meet Monday.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

Recommendations from the lodging tax committee add up to $445,000, with not all requests honored.

Requests would be funded in full for the Jefferson County Historical Society ($64,076), Olympic Peninsula Gateway Visitor Center ($65,000), North Hood Canal Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center ($53,800), Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce ($17,250), Forks Chamber of Commerce for visitor center ($29,535), Washington State University Farm Tour ($5,000) and the county parks and recreation campgrounds ($28,140).

Proposed allocations would be less than the requested amount for Centrum, which asked for $25,000 and would receive $20,000; Tourism Coordinating Council, $135,000 instead of $144,000; Quilcene Fair and Parade, $3,500 instead of $10,000; and county Public Works for Olympic Discovery Trail, $7,714 instead of $25,000.

Receiving nothing would be Quilcene Brinnon Dollars for Scholars, which requested $8,000, and HiYu Audio of Quilcene, which requested $22,175 for a party truck, $32,000 for Fort Worden facilities and $15,106 for the Quilcene Museum.

Items on the consent agenda include a change order for the Undie Road emergency relocation project for an estimated $17,194.

Commissioners plan an executive session at 10 a.m. concerning potential litigation.

Port Townsend City Council

The Port Townsend City Council will consider adopting a 2017 budget, a capital improvement plan for 2017-22 and property tax levies when it meets Monday.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

The proposed budget builds on continuing improvement in the economy, according to City Manger David Timmons.

A 1 percent property tax levy increase and a 6.67 percent emergency medical services levy are proposed.

The council also will conduct an executive session to discuss the performance of a public employee.

No other city committee meetings are scheduled.

PDA executive committee

The Fort Worden Public Development Authority executive committee will review the draft 2017 budget when it meets Tuesday.

The meeting will be at 9 a.m. at the Fort Worden Seminar Building, Building 297. The public is invited.

The review of the budget will include major capital initiatives for next year.

The committee also will hear a cash flow projection report, a cost estimate on Building 305 work and a 2016 maintenance report.

Port Townsend schools

The Port Townsend School Board will hear school improvement and assessment reports when it meets Monday.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Gael Stuart Building, 1610 Blaine St.

The board will hear reports on Grant Street Elementary, Blue Heron Middle and Port Townsend High schools.

It also will hear updates on the curriculum committee and the Maritime Discovery program.

It will consider a swimming-diving sports cooperative agreement with Sequim School District.

Jefferson PUD

Jefferson County Public Utility District commissioners will discuss the low-income program and rates and charges when they meet Tuesday.

The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. at 230 Chimacum Road, Port Hadlock.

Commissioners will consider action on an interlocal agreement with the Chimacum School District and participation in an emergency management plan.

Quilcene School Board

The Quilcene School Board will meet Wednesday.

The board will meet at 6 p.m. in Room 9 at 294715 U.S. Highway 101.

No agenda was available as of Saturday.
