The three Jefferson County commissioners will discuss Monday a proposal to build a 3-mile multipurpose trail and add 2 miles of bicycle-only skills trails to Gibbs Lake County Park.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

The trails would be built by the Quimper Trails Association and the Buckhorn Range Chapter of the Back Country Horsemen. The county would provide $1,500 from the park maintenance funds for supplies, tools and fuel.

Formal action by commissioners is not required.

A track for use by hikers, bicycle riders and equestrians would be built around the perimeter of the park, which includes newly acquired land.

The bicycle-only trails would incorporate special features such as ramps, jumps, banked turns and drops.

A 2-acre skills area would include a pump track, varied drops, balance logs and drop lines.

Items on the consent agenda include:

■ A resolution to declare property as surplus and authorize its disposal.

■ A $23,934 contract with Clark Land Office of Sequim for Undi Road realignment surveying services. All but 12.5 percent is expected to be funded with federal and state money.

■ An agreement to allocate $3,000 for editorial review of county code.

■ An agreement to renew the lease for the Cupola Building that now houses the Washington State University Extension office for $1,756 per month.

Port Townsend schools

The Port Townsend School Board will accept the resignation of Superintendent David Engle and consider hiring a search firm to recommend candidates to replace him when it meets Monday.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in Room S-11 of the Gael Stuart Building, 1610 Blaine St.

Engle announced earlier this month that he would retire at the end of the year.

The board is hoping to find a permanent replacement for Engle in time for the next school year instead of hiring an interim superintendent. On Friday, the board conducted a special meeting to consider a proposal from a search firm.

On Monday, the board also will discuss an email from a resident asking if greater security measures will be taken in light of an intruder entering a classroom March 18.

A teacher who had been banned from campus entered a classroom in the afternoon after having threatened the school principal earlier in the day.

Engle’s emailed response outlining measures being taken also will be discussed.

Port Townsend city

The Port Townsend Library Advisory Board will hear a presentation on city advisory boards when it meets Monday.

The board will meet from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Library Learning Center/Charles Pink House, 1256 Lawrence St.

The Port Townsend City Council will not meet this week.

No other city committees have scheduled meetings.

Jefferson Healthcare

Jefferson Healthcare hospital commissioners will review and possibly revise bylaws when they meet Tuesday.

The work session will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Jefferson Healthcare conference room at 2500 W. Sims Way, Suite 302.

Action may be taken.
