Meetings across Clallam and Jefferson counties

The Dungeness River floodplain restoration and levee road realignment project, a solid waste update and several school board meetings are set for discussion next week on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Clallam County Commissioners

The three Clallam County commissioners will consider awarding a contract to Nordland Construction Northwest for $1,821,409 phase 3 of the lower Dungeness River floodplain restoration and levee road realignment project during their weekly business meeting Tuesday.

The commissioners’ work session, at 9 a.m. Monday, will preview items set for action at their formal meeting, which starts at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The commissioners also will discuss a real estate purchase or sale in executive session during a special meeting at 1 p.m. Monday and will discuss litigation or potential litigation in executive session during a special meeting at noon Tuesday; no virtual attendance is available for either meeting.

• An agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture regarding weed control within the Olympic National Forest by county personnel.

• A call for a public hearing at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, regarding debatable budget emergencies as well as resolutions adopting various budget reductions, revisions and supplemental appropriations on May 28.

• A grant application from District Court I for continuing funding from the Administrative Office of the Courts for Mental Health Court.

• An amended agreement with the state Department of Ecology to extend the deadline for grant funding of the lower Dungeness River floodplain restoration and levee road realignment project and to transfer $1.6 million from an unexecuted grant to this project.

• A staff recommendation to reject the bid by Bruch and Bruch Construction for the McDonald Creek irrigation and fish passage improvement passage.

• A pre-grant application for $276,000 from the Puget Sound National Estuary program for a research assistant and Streamkeepers coordinator for two years.

• A call for a public hearing at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, regarding proposed amendment of county code Title 21: building and construction code.

• A draft ordinance to establish performance standards for agricultural accessory uses in rural and resource zones.

• A review of the Clallam Public Defenders first quarter indigent defense appointments from Harry Gasnick and a discussion of impending changes to the public defense caseload standards.

The meeting of the Hood Canal Coordinating council scheduled for Wednesday afternoon has been canceled.

The Hood Canal Coordinating Council is a watershed-based council of governments consisting of Jefferson, Kitsap and Mason Counties and the Port Gamble S’Klallam and Skokomish tribes. It was established in 1985 to address concerns about water quality issues.

Quillayute Valley Park and Recreation Board

The Quillayute Valley Park and Recreation Board will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
