EYE ON THE PENINSULA: Lodging tax, body cams before Peninsula boards

Meetings across Clallam County.

Lodging tax allocations, a contract for police body cameras and the status of the American Legion shelter are topics before boards and commissions this week on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Clallam County Commissioners

The three Clallam County commissioners will consider agreements with four agencies for a total of $417,400 in lodging tax funds, including $100,000 for the Port Angeles Waterfront Center, $157,500 for the Washington Festival and Events Education Foundation, $84,400 for Clallam County Public Works and $75,500 for Clallam County Parks Fair and Facilities during their weekly work session.

The commissioners’ work session, at 9 a.m. Monday, will preview items set for action at their formal meeting, which will start at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

• An agreement with Washington Water Trails Association to designate and maintain a portion of Salt Creek Recreation Area for overnight camping in conjunction with the Cascadia Marine Trail.

• A victim witness assistance grant for $62,230 to fund 70 percent of a victim witness coordinator in the Prosecutor’s Office.

• An agreement with the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs for a $158,125 pass-through grant to Olympic Peninsula Community Clinic to provide field response services for mental health crises.

• A contract renewal with the Kitsap Critical Incident Response Team for use of deadly force investigations.

• An agreement with Muir Communications of Langley, B.C., for use of a telecommunications tower for Sheriff’s Office communications equipment.

• A letter of support for Clallam County Public Utility District #1 regarding a grant application to the Department of Commerce to build a micro-grid at the district’s Sequim office.

• A letter to Rayonier regarding its proposed sale of the Clallam-S package that includes a 150-foot-wide by 6.5-mile-long corridor that the county has been trying to acquire for the Olympic Discovery Trail.

• An agreement with Peninsula Behavioral Health for $250,000 in affordable sales and use House Bill 1406 funds for a five-bedroom permanent supported housing group at Fifth and Fir streets in Sequim.

• A call for a public hearing at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, regarding proposed changes to the building and construction code.
