EYE ONCLALLAM: County views COVID-19 needs survey

Clallam County commissioners will discuss the results of a survey to identify community needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic at 9 a.m. Monday.

The work session can be viewed at www.clallam.net/features/meetings.html.

A group of Clallam County nonprofits developed the needs assessment to understand how to best support the COVID-19 recovery, according to an executive summary.

Other discussion items include:

• A letter of support for Clallam Transit grants to fund the No. 123 Strait Shot route to Bainbridge Island and No. 16 route to Clallam Bay and Neah Bay for the 2023-‘25 biennium.

• A possible U.S. Forest Service land acquisition along the Sol Duc River.

• A $53,912 agreement with Norpoint Tactical to provide security services at the COVID-19 Social Distancing Center through Oct. 31.

• An agreement with AquaTerra Cultural Resources Consultants for services for the Clallam Bay-Sekiu sewer, culvert, bridge and road projects.

• An amended agreement with the state Recreation and Conservation Office for the Lower Dungeness Floodplain Restoration project.

• An draft institutional discrimination statement of values and action plan.

• Proposed agreements with Port Angeles and Sequim food banks and Serenity House of Clallam County for COVID-19 financial assistance.

• At 11 a.m. Monday, commissioners will discuss Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding.

• At 9 a.m. Wednesday, the board will hold a continued work session to hear an update on mineral resource lands.

Commissioners will conduct their regular business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Action items include:

• A proclamation recognizing public health officials and volunteers.

• An agreement with Jamestown Tower, LLC for use of the Blyn tower site.

• An agreement with Clallam County Public Utility District for CARES Act funds to support residential utility customers.

• A resolution appointing Sharon Maggard to the Homelessness Task Force.

• Notice that budget revisions and supplemental appropriations will be adopted Aug. 25.

• A call for Aug. 25 hearing on proposed debatable budget emergencies.

• A public hearing on proposed amendments to investment policy.

• A public hearing on debatable budget emergencies.

Port of Port Angeles

Port of Port Angeles commissioners will discuss the strategic plan when they meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Commissioners also will hear a update on COVID-19, discuss the community partner program and be introduced to the capital budget process.

Port Angeles schools

The Port Angeles School Board will hear recommendations on how to reopen schools when it meets at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The agenda, and directions for joining the meeting, will be posted next week at tinyurl.com/PDN-paschoolboardaug13. Residents are urged to submit board-meeting comments before the meeting.

Public Utility District

Clallam County Public Utility District commissioners will consider authorizing the disposal of surplus property when they meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Sequim city

Sequim City Council members will discuss the Housing Ad Hoc Committee’s recommendations when it meets at 6 p.m. Monday.

The public can hear meetings online at sequimcityaug10 or call 253-363-9585, conference ID 604 405 822#. Written public comment can be sent to smcmillon@sequimwa.gov and will be distributed to the council prior to the meeting.

Council members will review a summary of the Housing Ad Hoc Committee’s recommendations following their five meetings through the spring and summer of 2019.

The council also will consider waiving privilege as to the opinion received from outside counsel on the Mariners Outlook Homeowners’ Association’s authority to grant city road easements within the subdivision so as to share it with MOHOA and engage in further conversations.

It will review staffing requests for the 2021 budget.

Sequim schools

The Sequim School Board will discuss goals, compensation and Educational Program & Operations (EP&O) levies when they meet in a workshop at 4 p.m. Monday.

The public is invited to view via Microsoft Teams. No public comments will be heard. No action will be taken.

Peninsula College

The Peninsula College Board of Trustees will hold their Annual Special Meeting virtually at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Conservation District

The Clallam Conservation District board will consider proposed revisions to its public information policy when it meets at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

The board also will the plant sale and be updated on the Long Range Plan concerning water resources.
