SEQUIM — The family aboard a private airplane that crashed into the water near Orcas Island on Saturday night was returning from church services in Sequim, sources said Tuesday.
Cheney Triplett, 9, is missing and believed to be trapped in the wreckage of the single-engine plane piloted by her father, Michael Triplett, 43, a dentist in Eastsound on Orcas Island.
Triplett, mother Terri, 43, and Cheney’s twin sister, Jennalise, escaped the plane after it hit the water and were rescued by Orcas Island neighbors who formed a search party after hearing the crash.
The PDN on Tuesday learned that Dr. Triplett’s parents and a sister live in the Sequim area.
