PORT TOWNSEND – They paraded in popcorn bags, wore hubcaps as hats, strutted in cigar bands and looked smashing in trash bags.
And they all made a fashion statement.
“It’s our way of parodying the disposable culture in which we all live,” Robin Worley told the audience.
Worley is the Northwest coordinator for a group of designers who eschew silk and satin for plastic bread wrappers and paper bags.
On Friday, models strutted her designs at a fashion show that was literally trashy.
“It’s called Haute Trash, like haute couture, only made with garbage,” Worley said.
Worley, who lives in Port Townsend, was invited to bring her fashion show to Northwind Arts Center to kick off an exhibit of art made from recycled materials.
Called “reVisions,” the exhibit, which opened Friday, features work by local and regional artists.
“It’s imaginative, innovative and fun,” said spokesman Don White at Friday’s opening.
