CHIMACUM — East Jefferson Fire-Rescue investigators say a faulty electrical cord caused the Wednesday morning house fire at which a woman died.
Meanwhile, community funds to help the man who tried to rescue her and to help her widowed husband to rebuild have been established at a Port Townsend bank.
Sandra Joyce Bundy, 74, died from smoke inhalation in the blaze that engulfed her home near the intersection of West Valley and Egg and I roads, about five miles south of Chimacum.
She died of burns and smoke inhalation shortly after Port Townsend-area resident Gregory Bryant, 20, heroically pulled her from the burning house.
Bryant is recovering from third-degree burns to the hands, arms and head at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, to where he was airlifted for treatment.
Bryant was listed in satisfactory condition at Harborview and might go home to, authorities said.
