CLALLAM BAY — An assault Wednesday evening among four inmates at Clallam Bay Correctional Center resulted in a prisoner receiving several injuries to his face and units at the prison being locked down.
No officers were injured in the assault, Superintendent Sandra Carter said Thursday.
She commended staff for how it managed to break up the fight that started in a cell and spilled into the day room of Unit C.
Officials do not know what started the fight, Carter said.
Makeshift weapons used
Three makeshift weapons believed to be used in the assault were recovered, including a sock filled with bars of soap, a toothbrush fitted with a razor blade and a length of electrical cord.
Kea Ieng, a 37-year-old serving a 23-year sentence for first-degree murder, received numerous cuts and scrapes to his face and whipping marks on his body, Carter said.
Ieng was transported to Forks Community Hospital where his injuries were determined not to be life threatening.
Early Thursday morning, he was transferred to the hospital ward at the Monroe Corrections Center for treatment.
