PORT TOWNSEND — Being a sponsor of the Port Townsend Film Festival has local benefits for business owners, says Peter Simpson, artistic director of the fall event.
“When we say sponsor, what we really mean is partner,” Simpson told about 50 attending the Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce weekly luncheon meeting Monday at Fort Worden State Park Commons.
“When we hit you up to be a sponsor, the business should ask: What does this do for me?”
Simpson’s talk on Monday continued a monthlong series of chamber programs underscoring the economic relationship that Port Townsend’s various festivals have with the business community.
The Wooden Boat Festival has been a past topic, and Centrum will cap the series next Monday.
After giving a brief history of the festival’s nine years of operation, Simpson explained the local aspect of the festival to chamber members.
“We want our audience to be mostly local,” he said. “They are mostly local.
“The festival is a time to discuss movies with your neighbors and your friends.”
