Officials from three fire districts met in downtown Port Townsend on Tuesday evening to consolidate Jefferson County Fire Districts Nos. 1 and 6 and Port Townsend Fire Department.
The agencies will share personnel, equipment and funds, which help eliminate duplication of services and allow greater flexibility and faster response in times of emergencies, fire officials said earlier.
With the consolidation, fire officials now hope to remove Port Townsend Fire Department from city administrative control and merge the three entities into one.
