SEQUIM — A hay field fire charred several acres and cast a smoky pall over farms during Lavender Weekend before being extinguished by a multiple-agency response.
The fire burned 2.5 acres and piles of hay, and threatened several homes at about 2:41 p.m. Friday near Woodcock Road between Many Feathers Way and Taylor Ranch Road.
Response to the fire included 14 units from Clallam County Fire District No. 3, Clallam County Fire District No. 2 and the Department of Natural Resources to protect the homes and extinguish the fire, said James Brown, spokesman for District No. 2.
Deputies from the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
The fire was started by a spark from a hay cutter and was driven by winds toward homes on Laura Lane and Frank Road, Brown said.
