PORT ANGELES — No one was hurt in a fire that damaged a three-story wooden home east of Port Angeles.
The son of Lane Wolfley, the owner of the home at 560 Monroe Road, was the lone occupant, and he evacuated safely after the fire was reported at 7:55 p.m. Tuesday night, said Lt. Kevin Thompson of Clallam County Fire District No. 2.
Plastic leaning against a hot metal chimney pipe on the unfinished third floor melted and ignited, Thompson said, and the fire spread to nearby wood framing.
Upon arrival, two crews found heavy smoke pouring from the third floor, with flames visible between the gables on the north-side roof, Thompson said.
Two crews quickly brought the fire under control, containing fire damage to the third floor, though smoke damaged the home throughout, he said.
Water damage was kept to a minimum, he said.
The Fire Department estimated damage at about $50,000.
The power remained off to the home Wednesday, Thompson said.
