PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Fire Department reported that its 35th Operation Candy Cane was a success.
The six-day campaign, held Dec. 7-12, collected 12,753 pounds of food and $3,200 in cash, checks and gift cards.
Annually, Port Angeles firefighters drive through the streets of the city on their 1956 Seagrave fire engine to pass out candy canes and collect food and cash donations from residents.
The department donates the collected food and money to the Port Angeles Food Bank, the Salvation Army and, new this year, to Peninsula College’s Pirate Pantry.
