A free-standing carport and workshop were engulfed in flames Sunday afternoon at 721 Benson Road in Port Angeles. Firefighters from Clallam County Fire District No. 2 and Port Angeles Fire Department responded.
The fire began at about 2:30 p.m.
Homeowners reported hearing an explosion, then flames shot out of the carport, followed by additional smaller explosions.
A 1940s-era Willys Jeep was also destroyed in the fire.
The property is owned by the Dempsey family, and a nearby house under renovation was not damaged.
