Fire destroys garage in Irondale

IRONDALE — A fire destroyed a garage in the 300 block of West Kincaid Street, East Jefferson Fire Rescue said.

No one was injured.

Firefighters responded to the structure fire shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday, the fire district stated in a press release.

They arrived to find a detached garage engulfed in flames.

The fire was out by 8:30 p.m., but due to the heat it generated, the garage’s contents were mostly destroyed, the press release said.

The residents said they began a fire in a wood stove within the structure about 7 p.m. and left the building, according to the fire district. A neighbor saw smoke and safely released two dogs from within the structure.

The Red Cross was assisting the residents.

East Jefferson Fire Rescue, Naval Magazine Indian Island and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office all responded.
