PORT ANGELES — Hurricane Ridge Road remained open Tuesday as Olympic National Park staff continue to fight two fires at the Ridge.
Obstruction Point Road is closed to the public as the largest fire currently burning in the park, the Eagle Point Fire, stood at about 70 acres as of Tuesday evening.
The Hurricane Ridge Fire burning about 2,000 feet below the Hurricane Ridge parking lot was about 4 acres and 75 percent contained, according to park staff.
Four other fires have been confirmed to be burning in wilderness areas. They pose no threat to lives or property and are being monitored.
They are:
• Diamond Mountain Fire, 3.3 miles northeast of Anderson Pass, 25 acres.
• Low Divide Fire in the North Fork Quinault drainage, 8 acres.
• Delebarre Fire, 3 miles southeast of Mount Christie, 1 acre.
• Martins Lake, 2 miles northeast of Mount Christie, 1 acre.
All the fires were started by lightning strikes early on Aug. 28. Many of the fires are burning in wilderness areas and pose no threat to lives or property. Park officials are monitoring all of the fires.
Olympic National Forest
In Olympic National Forest, lightning caused the Tunnel Creek Fire east of the Buckhorn Wilderness in the Olympic National Forest earlier this week, according to fire managers.
Estimated at less than 1 acre, the fire is smoldering on steep slopes.
Rappellers, a helicopter and a dozer are currently engaged with additional resources en route. Firefighters are working to create a handline around the perimeter of the fire. Visitors are asked to avoid the area for public and firefighter safety.
Light showers are expected today, but temperatures are expected to rise through the week.
