First of four health care reform forums slated

The Clallam County League of Women Voters is hosting a series of four free forums on health care system reform.

The first forum, “Health Care Reform: Why the Urgency?,” will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Little Theater on the Port Angeles campus of Peninsula College, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

The forums are being co-sponsored by Olympic Medical Center.

Panelists include Olympic Medical Center CEO Eric Lewis; Dr. Frederick Chen, Harborview Medical Center chief of family medicine and University of Washington School of Medicine associate professor; and Dr. Tom Locke, public health officer for Jefferson and Clallam counties.

The panel will discuss the threat to local services, cost and the impact of health care on the economy, and outcomes to our national health.

The remaining three forums will be held in June, July and August.

Presentations will include the moral and ethical issues raised by limiting access, the health care market and its importance to the economy and the health of the nation, and a discussion of options for broad reform.
