PORT ANGELES — First responders from multiple Clallam jurisdictions took part in a rescue of a man who fell over an embankment at the Elwha River near Highway 112.
At around 7 p.m., the man was hauled to safety using ropes, a harness and litter, according to Assistant Chief Mike DeRousie of Clallam Fire District No. 2.
He was transported to Olympic Medical Center after 7 p.m. with leg and back pain, said DeRousie.
District 2 initially responded at approximately 4:30 p.m. for a report of a man who fell about 20 feet down an embankment at the former Elwha Dam site near Highway 112.
Personnel from Clallam Districts 2 and 3, Port Angeles Fire Department and Clallam County Search and Rescue assisted in the rescue.
DeRousie said the man had walked to the edge of the embankment to look at the Elwha River. He slipped and attempted to grab a rock outcropping but fell.
