PORT ANGELES — Victoria McDonald was first in line again.
Lincoln Theater worker Shamber Edwards sold McDonald the first ticket to the 12:01 a.m. Friday showing of “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” at 5:20 p.m. Thursday
“I’m so excited,” said McDonald, of Fitchburg, Mass., who got in line at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
“My cold butt and cold feet don’t matter anymore.”
Persistent rain didn’t deter more than 200 steadfast Twilight fans who braved the elements Thursday to get their tickets to the 12:01 a.m. screening of the movie, which is based on the second novel of Stephenie Meyer’s four-book series about teen love and vampires set in Forks.
Fans of the books and movies — mostly teenagers and twentysomethings — donned heavy raincoats and camped out along First Street to the corner of Laurel Street, bunching together in festive anticipation as the box office opened.
McDonald earned the distinction of having the first “Twilight” saga ticket in Port Angeles for the second-straight year.
She was first in line when the “Twilight” movie opened at the downtown theater last November.
McDonald was the first manager of the Dazzled by Twilight gift store in Port Angeles, an extension of the same store in Forks.
She is the wife of Sean McDonald, former advertising director of the Peninsula Daily News, who is now publisher of the Sentinel & Enterprise daily newspaper in Fitchburg, Mass., where they moved in September.
She returned to see “New Moon” in Port Angeles.
McDonald said there is no way to describe the “Twilight” phenomenon to someone who doesn’t understand it.
The series comes down to a simple love story that has captivated a world that badly needs one, she said.
Farther down the line, Brandon Case of Forks shivered in the cold with his girlfriend, Kaylen Matus of Forks.
Case had arrived at his spot in front of McCrorie Home Furnishings at about noon Tuesday.
He relied on a tarp, sleeping bag, hot water bottles and his fellow “Twilight” saga fans to pass the time.
“It got pretty windy last night,” Case said.
Both Case and his girlfriend had high expectations for “New Moon.”
Matus said the rivalry between characters Edward and Jacob would be compelling.
“It’ll be cool to see how that turns out,” Matus said.
Edward, a vampire, and Jacob, a werewolf, fight over the heroine, Bella Swan.
McDonald said her only regret about the opening of “New Moon” was that her teenage daughter, Bella, wasn’t able to make the trip from Massachusetts.
“These are moments you remember for the rest of your life,” she said.
