PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson County Administrator John Fischbach announced Monday that he will resign, effective Feb. 15.
He cited personal reasons at the meeting of the three Jefferson County commissioners.
“I want to get back to cities [government]. That’s where my skills are,” said Fischbach, 62, a former city manager in Colorado.
“I’ve been feeling like a fish out of water.”
He said he believes city government operates more efficiently than county government.
“The commissioners and I agree that this is a good time to move on,” he said shortly after the announcement.
The county commissioners, who spent nearly two hours in executive session last Monday, much of it with Fischbach, met again Monday morning for about 15 minutes in closed session.
They reconvened in public session in their courthouse chambers, where Fischbach made his announcement.
The commissioners met again in executive session for more than an hour Monday afternoon to discuss possible in-house department heads who could act as interim administrator until a permanent county administrator is hired.
