FORKS — Nearly a dozen carpenters protested inmate labor Friday morning at a project they said could provide jobs for those not incarcerated.
Union and nonunion carpenters and laborers carried a variety of signs decrying the use of prisoners or suggesting inmates be paid prevailing wages.
Forks police said the protest did not prompt any law enforcement action.
The protest, in front of a joint conference center being built by the state Department of Natural Resources at 411 Tillicum Lane, was organized by carpenters from the Hoquiam area.
