FORKS — Suzie Dick has walked the short path many times that winds under looming trees and past tall ferns and grass.
On an overcast afternoon, she stops at a place where the trail curves close to a narrow, muddy creek.
She climbs a slight rise and leans in to inspect messages scrawled on the bark of a tree.
“RIP. David Davis. I U.”
“He was a little boy at heart,” Dick says of her 18-year-old son.
“He never had a chance to grow up.”
It was here in the shallow water just west of downtown Forks that a group of young men found the clothed body of David Wayne Davis on Feb. 25, covered in mud and lying on his back across the 3-foot-wide creek.
