FORKS — It doesn’t get much clearer.
If a Forks High School student threatens another student with a knife or some other weapon on campus, he or she could be expelled.
And chain dog collars as well as spikes longer than half an inch are not to be worn to school.
These rules are according to a draft of the Forks High School Student Handbook 2005-06.
New student handbooks don’t usually draw much attention.
But this one did.
Last school year, former Forks High School Principal Steve Quick took the lead in revising the school’s student handbook, to the chagrin of many parents and students who felt excluded from the process.
During the height of opposition to Quick — whose contract wasn’t renewed for the 2005-06 school year — parents often cited the student handbook he revised as evidence that the controversial principal wouldn’t listen to community members.
Now, Quick is gone.
And last week, the School Board got its first look at a draft of the student handbook that they can amend and/or approve at the Sept. 6 School Board meeting.
While the School Board takes time to review the draft proposal, students and parents are already talking about how much they like the new handbook.
