Forks home a total loss following fire

Chief: Cause still under investigation

FORKS — A mobile home in Forks that caught fire over the weekend was a total loss, said Bill Paul, chief of Clallam County Fire District No. 1.

“When I arrived it was already 100 percent involved, so we just did a defensive attack,” he said. “Everyone was out of the residence.”

Firefighters were called out to the fire at 2551 Calawah Way at about 1:42 a.m. Saturday. He said a woman who lived in the home escaped after her dog woke her up.

Paul said the cause of the fire was still under investigation, but said the woman was heating the home with the electric stove in the kitchen.

She told firefighters the stove is what caught fire, Paul said.

During the fire, power lines fell on the right side of the home, he said, which created some difficulty until Clallam County Public Utility District arrived.

He said there was no concern of the fire spreading to nearby structures, though a vehicle was damaged by the blaze.

He said firefighters were on scene for about four hours.
