FORKS — A 32-year-old Forks man was in stable condition at Forks Community Hospital on Saturday after he swerved to miss an elk on U.S. Highway 101 and the sedan he was driving hit a roadside ditch and overturned.
Gregory S. Banner was driving a blue Ford Taurus sedan owned by the state Department of Corrections northbound on Highway 101 about 10 miles south of Forks when he tried to avoid an elk on the road at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, the State Patrol said.
The Ford left the road and hit a ditch, according to troopers, before rolling and coming to rest off the road on its wheels.
The Ford was destroyed, the State Patrol said, and Banner was taken by personal vehicle to Forks Community Hospital.
He was listed in stable condition by a hospital nursing supervisor Saturday.
Banner was wearing a seat belt, the State Patrol said.
