FORKS — The Forks Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Committee has chosen a design for the holiday’s button.
The design is by Donald Gilbrech, 49, who was released from Olympic Corrections Center (OCC) on March 8.
He is a welder and art student from Spokane, he said. He plans to attend the Oregon College of Art and Craft in Portland, Ore., to seek a bachelor’s degree, he said.
“For the design, I used the Bald Eagle and American flag to connect the Long Live America theme you were looking for with a silhouette of the Western Hemlocks to showcase the beauty and industry of the region,” he told the committee.
“The fireworks display in the night sky is to represent the freedom and independence of our great nation.”
For the last few years, the committee has sought a design by a OCC inmate.
This year, the OCC had two entries.
