FORKS — Organizers of the 41st annual Quillayute Valley Scholarship Auction wrapped up the event Sunday night with West End residents donating “a little less than”‘ the more than $72,000 raised in 2003.
“We are lower this year than last year, but not by very much — and that’s not bad considering the economy,” said Dave Robinson, auction chairman, at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday
Auctioneers at the event included state Rep. Jim Buck, R-Joyce, and state Sen. Jim Hargrove, D-Hoquiam.
Robinson said the final auction dollar figure raised was not known yet.
Like last year, the auction ran overtime by about an hour, wrapping up shortly before 8 p.m.
The two-day event auctioned 900 items this year, and hundreds of bidders milled in and out of the Bank of America lobby, 481 S. Forks Ave.
Dollars raised are intended to help more than 85 Forks High School and Quileute Tribal School graduates continue their educations.
