FORKS — All four schools on the Quillayute Valley School District main campus in Forks were briefly locked down Tuesday while police searched for a patient missing from Forks Community Hospital, according to police.
A person who was being held at the hospital for a mental evaluation walked away, and the schools were locked down as a precaution, said Rick Bart, Forks Police Department administrator.
“He didn’t get very far,” Bart said.
Hospital officials were not available Tuesday for comment.
At the schools, the lockdown began at 11:05 a.m. and ended at 11:09 a.m., said Diana Reaume, district superintendent.
The district received a phone call from a law enforcement agency directing the school to initiate lockdown procedures, Reaume said.
Forks Elementary, Forks Intermediate, Forks Junior High and Forks High schools were all locked down.
“All schools followed the protocol,” Reaume said.
“The kids and staff were safe.”
