PORT ANGELES — Mary Ann Unger, who retired in 2011, will return to the Port Angeles School District as interim deputy associate superintendent beginning July 1.
Unger is stepping in for Michelle Reid, who is leaving Port Angeles schools to serve as superintendent of South Kitsap School District.
Before she retired, Unger had served as an administrator in various capacities from 1993 to 2011 and had taught in Port Angeles schools before taking on the administrative roles.
Since her retirement, Unger has served as an adjunct faculty member for the University of Washington.
“We’re thrilled and so fortunate to have a veteran leader fill in during this transition year,” Superintendent Jane Pryne said after the School Board approved the appointment this week.
“Mary Ann has a wonderful skill set which will serve all levels of our students, our administrative team and our teaching and support staff. I’m so appreciative she’ll be on board at the central office.”
Unger received a doctorate in educational leadership and a master’s in education administration from the University of Washington.
She earned a bachelor’s in education from Eastern Washington University.
Unger holds professional certifications in administration and teaching, the latter in the area of reading.
