NORDLAND — Nicholas Johnson will be bicycling across America this summer in support of people with disabilities.
While one might expect him to be an avid biker, but Johnson, a 1999 Chimacum High School graduate and a former Marrowstone Island resident, says he’s pretty new to the sport.
“I never actually cycled until a couple months ago,” he said during a telephone interview Wednesday. “But I always enjoyed helping people.”
Johnson, 22, is in his senior year at University of Washington.
He will take part in Journey of Hope 2003, along with about 70 members of his fraternity, Pi Kappa Phi.
The route will take the group from San Francisco to Washington, D.C. — a distance of nearly 4,000 miles — in 63 days.
