Four taken to hospital after collision east of Sequim

SEQUIM — Four people were transported to Olympic Medical Center after a collision east of Sequim.

John T. Belbin, 57, of Sequim was driving a 1996 Toyota Tacoma pickup eastbound on U.S. Highway 101 behind another vehicle about 5:22 p.m. Friday when he struck the second vehicle, lost control and hit the jersey barrier just west of White Feather Road, the State Patrol said.

Belbin, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported to the hospital.

The State Patrol suspected the cause was driving under the influence. Additional pending charges included vehicular assault, the State Patrol said.

Three people in the second vehicle, a 2017 Toyota Carolla, were transported to the hospital. They included driver Nunuha Kealaonaonahookipamalahini, 45, of Kapolei, Hawaii, and two passengers, Jason L. Verano, 49, of Kapolei, Hawaii, and a 16-year-old boy from Port Angeles, the State Patrol said. All three were wearing seat belts.

Both vehicles were totally destroyed, the State Patrol said.
