PORT ANGELES — Pre-registration is required for a free workshop in January on improving habitat for bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and other pollinators.
Clallam Conservation District is offering the workshop from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Port Angeles Library at 2210 S. Peabody St.
Pre-registration is required due to space limitations. To register, go to www.clallamcd.org/events or call 360-775-3747, ext. 5.
Eric Lee-Mader of Northwest Meadowscapes, a native seed farm on Whidbey Island that specializes in pollinator-friendly native flowers and grasses, will present ways to improve pollinator habitat.
He will walk through a step-by-step process to teach participants how to properly plan, install and maintain wildflower meadows and native hedgerows, as well as improve existing pollinator habitat, organizers said.
In addition to managing Northwest Meadowscapes, Lee-Mader is the Pollinator Program co-director for the Xerces Society, which focuses on protecting invertebrates and their habitats.
Conservation District staff will be on hand to talk about their annual Native Plant Sale, which offers many of the species discussed during the pollinator workshop.
They are taking pre-orders for bare-root native trees and shrubs through Jan. 27.
Descriptions of the plants offered for sale, ordering information and online ordering is available on their webpage www. clallamcd.org/native-plants.
