FORKS — A man who allegedly sped away from police and crawled out of a car wreck to escape into the woods March 13 is now behind bars.
Forks resident Dillan James Malone Klepps, 24, was booked into the Clallam County jail Friday for investigation of theft of motor vehicle, eluding police vehicle, second degree malicious mischief, reckless driving, second degree criminal trespass, obstructing a law enforcement officer and third degree driving while license suspended, according to jail authorities.
He was also wanted on a state Department of Corrections warrant out of Grays Harbor County for escape from community custody, according to jail records.
Klepps eluded police at about 7 p.m. on March 13 on Bogachiel Way after crawling out of a wrecked blue sedan.
He had fled when an officer attempted to pull him over for expired registration on the blue sedan, Forks police said last week.
He attempted to turn onto a logging road blocked by a heavy metal gate, hit it at a high rate of speed and wrecked the car, according to police.
Witnesses told an officer they saw Klepps run across the road and into the woods.
A search of the forest in the area turned up no sign of him, police said.
