Fulbright scholar to speak at college next Thursday

PORT ANGELES — Sandep Kandhwal of India, Peninsula College’s first Fulbright scholar-in-residence, will talk about the educational system in India on Thursday, Oct. 25.

Kandhwal will headline the college’s weekly Studium Generale program at 12:35 p.m. in the college’s Little Theater, 1502 E. Lauridsen Boulevard.

Kandhwal will talk about family life, his country’s social system and farming.

Some 80 percent of India’s population is involved in agriculture, he said.

Kandhwal will be at Peninsula College during the fall 2012 and winter 2013 quarters.

This fall, he is a guest lecturer in several classes, and this winter, he will teach his own course at Peninsula College.

In India, Kandhwal, who has earned a doctorate, is a lecturer — an associate professor — in zoology and the senior-most member of the faculty at Government College, Safidon, Jind, which is affiliated with Kurukshetra University in India.

He is also a permanent and confirmed employee of the Government of Haryana.

At Government College, Kandhwal teaches undergraduate classes in zoology and also is in charge of the biotechnology department, discipline committee, cultural committee, Edusat and house exams.

He also serves as a member of College Council and Staff Secretary and works in other areas related to the academic development of the college and proctorial work.

Kandhwal has traveled extensively to present research papers at several national and international conferences, including ones held in Germany, France, Switzerland and the United States.

His work also has been widely published in a number of scholarly journals.
