PORT ANGELES — A cougar said to be wandering around a residential area in unincorporated Clallam County was shot to death by an officer from the state Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Officer Paul Mosman shot the 100-pound female cougar Friday morning in Morse Creek Canyon after a resident in the Deer Park area called sheriff’s deputies late Thursday night to report that two of his goats had been killed.
Mosman said the cougar apparently jumped into a pen right next to where the owner’s dog was chained up, but did not attack the dog.
The cat killed one goat inside the pen and removed another.
Mosman found the carcass not far from the owner’s property when he went to the scene at about 1 a.m. Friday.
He summoned houndsmen and three tracking dogs to the area at 9:30 a.m. They treed the cougar and Mosman killed it with a single shot.
Mosman shot and killed an 80-pound cougar in early April near the Dungeness Fish Hatchery.
