PORT TOWNSEND — If your garage door’s wireless opener isn’t working, you may need to replace more than just the batteries.
A Kitsap Garage Door Company spokeswoman said the firm has received several complaints from customers about garage doors not working properly in the last few weeks.
“In the last week alone, I would say I have talked to maybe 15 or 20 people in the Jefferson County area,” said Chelsea Browning, customer service representative for the Kitsap-based company.
“They have all said it is working either intermittently or not at all.”
Browning said the problem with the garage doors is likely not old batteries, but old systems running at old frequencies — specifically, frequencies now being used by the Navy.
The signal interruption most likely is caused by interference with radios being used on Naval Magazine Indian Island, said Sheila Murray, public affairs officer.
“What they are calling about isn’t unusual,” Murray said.
“This has been an issue in the past on other bases, not before at Indian Island, but at other military bases around the country.”
