PORT ANGELES — Master Gardener Selinda Barkhuis will share her experiences of gardening with ducks at noon Thursday.
Her presentation, the next installment of Washington State University Clallam County Extension’s “Green Thumb Garden Tips” series, will be in the county commissioners’ meeting room (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St.
She will discuss the benefits of raising domestic ducks in gardens, such as their ability to repel pests, fertilize soils and supply eggs.
She will also explain how to keep ducks healthy and safe from raccoons and cooper hawks.
Barkhuis has been gardening in Port Angeles with Khaki Campbell ducks for the past five years, starting with a gaggle of two ducks — recently adding two more.
Barkhuis uses intensive and organic gardening techniques to grow a wide variety of fruit, vegetables and herbs on a city lot, which was featured during the 2012 Master Gardeners’ Petals & Pathway Garden Tour.
She has been a regular gardening topics presenter for the past few years.
