PORT TOWNSEND — The Jefferson County Genealogical Society will offer a three-session class titled “Genealogy: The Basics” this month.
Registration is required for the class and must be completed by Friday. To register, go to www.wajcgs.org or visit the society’s research center at 13692 state Highway 19 (Airport Cutoff Road).
The cost is $30 for members and $55 for nonmembers. The nonmember fee includes a $25 year-long membership to the society.
The class will be held on three consecutive Mondays from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 22 and ending Feb. 3.
The class is designed for beginners or a person who has yet to start or has tried to get started but doesn’t know how to approach research.
A small class of 15 will be introduced to foundational resources, websites, research techniques and finding research done by others.
Focus will be on researching in the United States, but basic concepts are transferable to researching anywhere in the world.
Participants also will be introduced to the organization and maintenance of the data they obtain, both hard copy and computerized formats.
