PORT TOWNSEND — Leaders, educators and students agreed Wednesday that coming up with a solution to global warming and creating a better environment requires education and action shared by everyone in the community.
“It’s very important that this educational facility provide opportunities to students to be exposed to problems such as global warming,” said Tim Behrenfeld, a Port Townsend High School science teacher.
Behrenfeld was one of seven panelists who led a Global Awareness Day discussion before more than 50 people at the Port Townsend High School auditorium.
Technical problems prevented a pre-discussion Webcast of “The 2% Solution,” which had been planned for the event.
Instead, a spirited community conversation took the lead.
The webcast can be viewed today at www.focusthenation.org, said Global Awareness Day Port Townsend organizer Joanna Loehr.
The webcast recommends reducing CO2 emissions by 2 percent each year for the next 40 years.
The Global Awareness Day’s web home page stated that “too many hits” Wednesday night prevented many from viewing the webcast.
