PORT TOWNSEND – Gov. Chris Gregoire praised the Wooden Boat Foundation’s hands-on marine education and trades programs as she toured the facilities and the site of the future Northwest Maritime Center on Friday.
She said the programs were in keeping with her preferred “personal approach” to education.
She has high hopes for the maritime center, which received a special appropriation in the last legislative session.
“I have the hope that it’s going to pique interest so (students) may find careers in marine trades or marine science,” Gregoire said as she wrapped up her two-hour visit.
Gregoire also spoke to a packed Public House restaurant reception hosted by the Jefferson County Democratic Party.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen next year, but whoa, are we having a good time,” Gregoire told the enthusiastically applauding audience.
