CARLSBORG — Donna Hudson, who has worked her way up the Sequim School District administrative ladder over the past 20 years, is Greywolf Elementary School’s new principal.
The red letters of the electronic sign fronting the school off Carlsborg Road flashed a big welcome to Hudson, who last week was being shown around the school in preparation for a new school year starting Sept. 8.
Greywolf has about 530 students from kindergarten to fifth grade. Opened in 1991, it is approaching its 20th year in operation.
Hudson has been a teacher, counselor and assistant administrator, most recently serving as assistant principal at Sequim Middle School.
Selecting Hudson for the post “wasn’t a difficult decision,” Superintendent Bill Bentley said.
“She’s very experienced, very qualified. I think she did an exceptional job for us, and when the job became available it seemed this was the right thing to do.”
Greywolf’s former principal, Patty Grenquist, resigned to take a similar position at Kitsap Lake Elementary School in Bremerton, Bentley said.
Hudson has substituted for Grenquist in her absence and has also assisted Patra Boots, principal at Helen Haller Elementary School.
Hudson’s vacancy at Sequim Middle School is being filled by Scott Harker.
He had worked for the Port Angeles School District since 2000, serving as vice principal and principal at Port Angeles High School, before deciding on the Sequim post and being able to spend more time with his children.
Hudson earned an associate degree from Centralia College, a bachelor’s degree in education from Eastern Washington University and a counseling degree from City University.
She earned her administrative credentials from Central Washington University.
“I am certainly committed to Sequim and I hope to be here for the rest of it,” Hudson said of her 21-year career with the district.
