PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles School District will break ground for a new middle school during a ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The public is invited to the ceremony on the field behind Stevens Middle School, 1139 W. 14th St., Port Angeles.
Attendees will hear remarks from district leadership, see a ceremonial turning of the soil and have an opportunity to learn more about the plans for the new school.
“This project has been years in the making, and we are thrilled to take this next step toward providing a modern, safe and innovative learning environment for our middle school students,” said Marty Brewer, superintendent of the Port Angeles School District. “We are incredibly grateful to the voters for their support and look forward to seeing this vision come to life.”
The new school, which will be designed to enhance student learning, will have updated classrooms, modernized facilities and improved safety measures, according to a school district press release.
The project will be funded by a capital levy approved by voters in 2020.
Construction will begin this spring and the school is planned to open in 2027, the school district said.
