A group of people concerned about rising property assessments has planned a meeting later this month to receive property tax information — and perhaps form an organization to push for changes in state tax law.
The meeting is scheduled at 6 p.m. Nov. 14 at Pioneer Park in Sequim, said Shelley Taylor, one of the organizers.
The group doesn’t have a name yet, but one that’s been floated is Property Owners for Fair Tax Practices Now, she said.
The idea came about after she and others saw what they considered alarmingly sharp increases in the assessed value of their properties, which leads to larger property tax bills.
“They’re just terrified with what’s going on,” she said.
“There’s no way to budget for your property taxes. They can just go up astronomically.
“We’re trying to figure out what it is we can possibly do.”
Possible state initiative
That could include a statewide ballot initiative of some sort.
