Clallam County commissioners were urged by a whaling protest group leader Monday not to endorse a proposed Makah tribal scenic byway road designation.
But commissioners say they have not discussed designating the road from the Makah reservation’s eastern boundary to Cape Flattery as a national scenic byway — as state Highway 112 is designated east of the reservation to U.S. Highway 101.
Margaret Owens of Joyce, co-founder of Peninsula Citizens for the Protection of Whales, told the commissioners that the Makah proposal’s tight timeline did not leave enough time for a proper public comment process.
