SEQUIM – A relatively palatial new location awaits Sequim’s free clinic next year – but director Jamie Goodwin said she needs specialized help to make the move successful.
The free clinic, officially known as the Dungeness Valley Health and Wellness Clinic, has long been a refuge for people with health problems but no insurance.
Saturday, it will celebrate its sixth anniversary in a small building in front of the Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church at 917 N. Sequim Ave.
Goodwin refers patients to a dozen local health-care providers who volunteer their time – doctors such as Charles Sullivan and Kari Olsen and nurse practitioners Donna West and Rita Wise.
But as Sequim’s population grows – with many workers who don’t get health insurance benefits – the clinic needs more, Goodwin said.
Her clientele includes seniors, but 73 percent of the people she sees are 50 and under.
“The truth is, we can’t move forward unless we get more providers,” Goodwin said.
