Guides’ association plans river cleanup and after party

FORKS — The Olympic Peninsula Guides’ Association will host its annual River Cleanup on Saturday.

New this year is an after party for volunteers, who will pull trash from rivers in the area.

Those who want to volunteer are asked to go to Forks Outfitters at 950 S. Forks Ave., between 5:45 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. that day. A table will be set up outside with a sign-up sheet, instructions, garbage bags and donuts.

Volunteers will clean boat launches and some will boat down rivers. The Olympic Peninsula Guides’ Association has pinpointed some problem areas that won’t require boat access. Volunteers must bring work gloves and clothes that can get dirty.

A $50 cash prize will be given to the person who picks up the most garbage from the river.

The after party will start at 6:30 p.m. at Blakeslee’s Bar & Grill, 1222 S. Forks Ave., and will include a 50/50 raffle — with proceeds benefiting the Olympic Peninsula Guides’ Association — and announcement of the river cleanup prize.

Blakeslee’s Bar and Grill and Forks Outfitters are sponsoring these events.
