Have you got yours? IRS has more than $600,000 to give to North Olympic Peninsula residents

While many have already spent their economic stimulus checks, more than 3,000 qualifying North Olympic Peninsula residents have yet to get their money.

The IRS wants to get the word out that it has more than $600,000 to send to Clallam and Jefferson county residents who file the proper paperwork.

The paperwork is very simple: file a federal tax return.

“Nobody is forced to take the money,” said Anne Smiley, who is in charge of outreach for the Internal Revenue Service in Washington state.

“If somebody doesn’t want the rebate, fine.”

But Smiley is trying to reach those who do those who want their piece of the $168 billion stimulus package President Bush signed into law in February.

It provides checks of between $300 and $600 for individuals, and between $600 and $1,200 for couples, with an additional $300 for each child.

The IRS began sending out the payments in May, but only to those who had filed their returns.
