PORT ANGELES — A study presented to the City Council this week says that water and sewer rates increase are necessary over the next three years.
If new rates are developed as the study by FCS Group of Seattle suggests, water and sewer rates would increase by 8.5 percent in 2009 and in 2010, while sewer rates would rise by 7.8 percent in 2011, and water rates would go up by about 4 percent in 2011.
The public hearing on the rates, which was begun on Tuesday, has been continued to the next City Council meeting on Sept. 16.
Council meetings begin at 6 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.
Public hearings usually begin at 7 p.m.
An ordinance for the changes will also be presented to the council at that time, Public Works Director Glenn Cutler said.
